Sun Shining on a Winter's Afternoon
The Words Inside
I’ve still got a copy of your letter
I keep it safe with all my treasures
All the words written in different colours
In a wooden box with all the others
But there’s only one from you
And the envelope is blue
And the words inside are true
Because I didn’t have a clue
Still that was nothing new ... for me
I get it out from time to time
Looking for reason between the lines
Looking for love inside the letter
An easy way to make my life better
But there’s only one from you
And the envelope is blue
And the words inside are true
Because I didn’t have a clue
Still that was nothing new ... for me
And it sends me searching on the screen
Facebook pages turning green
Envy at what is no longer mine
When I held your love so close to mine
But there’s only ever one letter from you
And the envelope’s a faded blue
And the words inside were once true
Because then I didn’t have a clue
And there’s only ever one letter from you
And the envelope’s a faded blue
And the words inside were once true
Because I didn’t have a clue
But the moon has cried a lot since then
Now that I’m no longer ten .... I’ve cried a lot since then...

Sun Shining on a Sunday Afternoon (in Lausanne 04/2012)
In a world where love
is noteworthy,
war and weather
stake their claims
and while
the world is burning
my words
water down the flames.
I’m observant
I’m patient
my heart
no longer ‘vacant’
I’m out
and over
like in a game
of red rover
And I yearn
for fields of clover
to warm my dreams
with salty
beach filled scenes.
And in this touch
of paradise
where water
comes freely
from the sky
I will sit
in the sun
on a sunday
afternoon
and think of love
and life
and while in this wonder
I’ll know
that eyes
are smiling
just like mine,
all across
the world.

The Promised Land
And your heart looking for a place to sleep
And the road has way too many corners
And the hills are laughing when you weep
Come take some time out in the forest
Let the sunlight open up the gold
Sit awhile and watch the leaves fall
... And let their sweet, sweet love unfold
You tell me stories of the desert
Where everything you touched felt like sand
A place where death lay beneath your window
And took you away from the promised land
Come take some time out in the forest
Let the sunlight open up the gold
Sit awhile and watch the leaves fall
... And let their sweet, sweet love unfold
And this sky now so blue without a warning
Will turn grey, like a sinner when he sins
And in the darkness you will call out to your children
‘Don’t worry little ones about the stories that I have told
Just sit awhile and watch the snow fall
... And let its sweet, sweet love unfold.’
